Hi Madam,
My wife had peripartum cardiomyopathy during second baby birth(2018). Her Heart functional rate was 22% when she had this & her condition improved gradually. Right now her heart functional rate is 59 to 60% & it is stable. Initially medication was more but now she is taking Cardivas 25 & Ramistar 5 pill twice a day based on Doctor prescription. Does she has to continue these madicines life long? It is already been 4.5 Years & I am not sure about side effects of taking these medicine.
Ans: Hello. If the EF has improved to 60% and is staying stable, chances are she can stop at least one or both of the medications and just keep monitoring. However, this kind of cardiomyopathy is generally not fully reversible so better to be absolutely sure the EF has improved that much. The side effects of these medications especially when tolerated well for so long are not much at all. She can safely take these lifelong, and will only have to consider other options if she wishes to have another child.
