I drink packaged fruit juices thinking they are a healthier alternative to soft drinks. However, I’ve recently been told that they may not be as healthy as they claim. From a nutrition point of view, how do packaged juices compare with whole fruits, and should they be avoided completely?

Ans: Packaged fruit juice sounds healthy, but nutritionally it behaves much more like a sweetened beverage than like whole fruit. Packaged juices (even “100% juice”) have no fiber with nutrient loss during processing, generally contain added sugar, high?fructose corn syrup, flavors and preservatives. You can have them in moderation. Go for healthier alternatives like whole fruits (best option), freshly squeezed juice (still lacks fiber but fewer additives), smoothies (retain fiber if blended, not strained)
or infused water (fruit flavor without sugar).
