Becoming a doctor is a dream for everyone who has chosen science subjects. However, due to various reasons, some candidates struggle to achieve the marks needed in their HSC exams. In such situations, the government should provide support to these candidates. Fortunately, the government is now offering assistance to those who want to pursue a career in medicine, without any discrimination. This kind of support was not available in the past.
How? Here is the answer.
Most people, including students, do not fully understand the NEET exam. Many are prioritizing NEET (in recent days, people are comparing it to exams in China and other countries). Why?
When compared to other entrance exams, NEET has a significantly higher number of aspirants. For example, around 22-23 lakh students are appearing for NEET. The NEET exam is conducted in a paper-and-pencil format, whereas JEE is based on computer-based testing (CBT).
There are several advantages of NEET compared to other entrance exams that everyone should understand before forming an opinion:
**Aspirants:** The number of aspirants for NEET is almost double that of JEE.
**Programs:** NEET allows admission primarily to medical courses, including BDS and AYUSH.
**Institutions:** There are fewer medical colleges compared to engineering colleges, which increases competition.
**Eligibility:**
- **Basic Eligibility:** HSC (common for both JEE and NEET)
- **Marks Requirement:** 50% for NEET, while the requirement for JEE varies.
- **Age Limit:** There is no upper age limit; the minimum age is 17 years at the time of admission.
- **Attempts:** Students can appear for NEET any number of times, whereas for JEE, they can only attempt it for three consecutive years.
- **College Fees:** Tuition fees for medical courses are comparable to other professional programs.
- **Attempts in HSC:** There is no limit on attempts in HSC.
- **Donations/Development Fees:** There are generally no issues regarding these expenses.
If the government sets stricter criteria for NEET, such as requiring a minimum of 60% in HSC (from a single board), not allowing a second attempt, and limiting the number of attempts to three consecutive years, the number of aspirants for NEET could drastically reduce—potentially by 50%.
**Issues Raised by Aspirants:**
Aspirants often do not maintain discipline while appearing for the exam. They should arrive at the test center at least 30 minutes early to avoid panic. It's crucial to follow instructions in the respective bulletin and to carry only the items mentioned to prevent delays and confusion. It is the responsibility of the individual. But it is not happening.
**Test Centers:** The exam centers should maintain hygienic conditions and provide necessary logistics, such as electricity backup, clean water, and canteen facilities for the candidates.
Despite taking great care in conducting this common entrance exam, the government, students, and parents are facing numerous challenges due to the actions of a few individuals. As members of the public, we must not tolerate such criminal activities and should support the government rather than create further trouble.
To address your situation: you are eligible for NEET. However, since you scored low marks in HSC, you will need to put in significant effort to improve. If you have diverted your focus to pursuing Pharmacy, it may hinder your ability to concentrate on both your current course and NEET preparation. You need to decide which path you want to pursue. The choice is yours.
