Sir, my son is in 11th, CS stream, haven't gone for any coaching during 11th but he plans to appear in JEE. But, almost all his classmates are going for coaching..should we suggest him to go for one for whole year after 12th or give coaching during 12th? Will he able to crack it?
Ans: Some students successfully crack JEE even if they join a coaching center after completing 11th standard. However, this depends on several factors, including: ? Academic performance over the last 3-4 years. ? The type of coaching center (integrated, weekend, or weekday classes). ? The distance between school and the coaching center. ? How smartly and strategically he prepares. ? His time management skills and ability to balance school and coaching. ? His self-motivation and dedication to the JEE preparation journey. ? Most importantly, his interest in engineering as a career.

Before making a decision, it’s essential to communicate openly with him. Ensure that he is genuinely interested in both joining a coaching center and pursuing engineering, rather than feeling pressured to do so.

Regardless of whether he joins coaching or not, always have Plan B and Plan C for his undergraduate studies. Encourage him to appear for multiple entrance exams (based on his interests and ambitions) instead of relying solely on JEE. This way, he will have more career options after completing 12th grade. All the Best for your Son's Prosperous Future.

I'm a parent of a 12th CBSE student who aced JEE Mains with 99%ile. He wants to study Astrophysics. What are the best courses, institutes (India & abroad), admission processes, and career scope?
Ans: Hi Puneet
Your son has an excellent percentile in JEE Mains, and his interest in Astrophysics is great for a research-oriented career.
There can be two ways either with B.Tech or B.S Course.
B.Tech in Engineering Physics / Electrical / Mechanical / Computer Science
Followed by an M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Astrophysics
Recommended if he also has an interest in technology, instrumentation, or computational astrophysics.

B.Sc. in Physics / Astrophysics
Followed by M.Sc. Physics / Astrophysics
Ph.D. in Astrophysics
Recommended if he is deeply interested in theoretical physics and cosmology.

IISc Bangalore – BS (Research) in Physics, followed by M.Sc./Ph.D.
IITs (IIT Bombay, IIT Kanpur, IIT Madras, IIT Delhi) – B.Tech in Engineering Physics / Physics
IISERs (Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research) – 5-year Integrated BS-MS in Physics
IIA (Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Bangalore) – Ph.D. programs in Astrophysics (after M.Sc.)
IUCAA (Inter-University Centre for Astronomy & Astrophysics, Pune) – Ph.D. in Astrophysics
TIFR (Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai) – Integrated M.Sc.-Ph.D.

For abroad he needs to appear for SAT after 12th for UG courses & GRE for PG courses.

Scope & Career Opportunities in Astrophysics
Academia & Research: Professors, Scientists at ISRO, NASA, ESA, etc.
Observatories & Space Organizations: Working with telescopes and space missions.
Data Science & AI: Many astrophysicists work in AI, ML, and big data analytics.
Finance & Consulting: The analytical skills from physics are in demand in finance.

12th pass, 81% in exams, 60% in JEE Mains 2025, feeling disheartened - what should I do?
Ans: Hello dear.
Remember, the JEE exam and passing engineering from 1st tier engg college can't be a parameter of success in life If you look nearby, many people are successful, but none of them have completed their engineering from 1st tier college or cleared JEE like competitive examinations. You tried your best but failed to crack JEE in 1 or 2 attempts. No problem. You are not alone in this worst situation (as per your thinking)! You also gave the MHT-CET and got a good percentile (90.2). You could be admitted to a good private engg college with this percentile in Maharashtra. But why you did not take this decision is not clear. I would like to suggest you, please drop the idea of appearing for JEE this time and clear any state-level engineering entrance examination. Take admission to a reputed private engineering college and start you journey in a fresh mood. For your reference, there are 10 engineering colleges in India where you can get admission without a JEE score. To know more details, please copy and paste the following link into your browser- https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/education/news/10-engineering-colleges-in-india-for-pursuing-btech-without-jee-main-2025-score/articleshow/118162587.cms.
Focus either on the state-level engineering entrance examination or choose the best options from the given link, if your financial position is strong.
